My Journey To Health
When my body sounded the alarm.
In 2017, after 10 years of use, I weaned off my SSRI anxiety medication (Paxil) over three months. This was detrimental to my mental health because it was far too fast of a taper. The doctor did not know what he was doing, and I paid the price.
I was hit with dark images, intrusive thoughts, a nonstop racing mind, depression, anxiety, OCD, and insomnia. I didn’t know what was happening. The doctor wanted me to go back on the medication, but I refused. I was determined to heal naturally.
Exploring alternative paths to healing.
I began exploring natural healing and started cutting out gluten, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, and processed sugars. However, I was still eating a lot of meat, fats, and grains, with no fruit and very few vegetables which made things worse for me.
Things continued to spiral. My testosterone level, coming from my brain, was at 73 (it should have been in the 800 range at age 30). A naturopath put me on high doses of testosterone injections, which made everything worse.
After seeing five doctors and naturopaths, I felt hopeless—but still determined. Lifting weights was the only thing that gave me a small sense of relief and distracted me from the chaos in my mind.
From heavy workout to bedbound.
One day, a few hours after an intense workout, an extreme weakness came over my body. I had never experienced anything like it, and it terrified me. I could no longer work out. My strength was taken from me, and with it came heavy fatigue, weak legs, chest tightness, night sweats, body vibrations, tingling all over, ear ringing, brain fog, and many other debilitating neurological symptoms on top of the mental health symptoms I was still dealing with from PAXIL.
I had severe adrenal fatigue from chronic stress, lack of sleep, and the high-fat diet I was on. I became bedbound. For four months, I thought I was going to die at any moment. It was my dark night of the soul and the hardest time of my life.
I realized I needed to do something. I began praying and calling upon God to guide me out of this. I learned about fear and belief systems. I began facing my fear of dying, as well as my resistance to the symptoms. I used calming breathing techniques to regulate my nervous system and started meditating, journaling, and using positive affirmations to change my beliefs.
Slowly, things began to change.
The adrenaline began to slow, and my body started healing. After weeks to months, I was able to get out of bed, move around, and even leave the house. My adrenals were getting stronger—and so was I. I was able to do light workouts, though I would often flare and end up back in bed for a week.
I was still weak, exhausted, and dealing with neurological symptoms, but I could do more than before. During this time, I lost my friends, my job, my girlfriend, and everything I loved to do. I moved back home which was a struggle in its own. But I chose to rise above the suffering and use it as an opportunity to become the best version of myself.
I was improving, but nowhere near healed. I believed I could fully heal—I just didn’t know how.
In 2018, I found Medical Medium.
Eight months after my first symptoms appeared, I found Medical Medium: Life-Changing Foods book—or rather, it found me. From the moment I started reading, I knew I had found the answers to what was causing my symptoms and how to heal them. I didn’t waste any time.
I knew detoxification was necessary. I removed all meat and grains from my diet and began incorporating celery juice, fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables. I transitioned to a completely fruit- and vegetable, low-fat, plant-based diet.
My body immediately began detoxing. I felt like I had the flu during the first week. After just one week of eating these nourishing foods, I had a bowel movement once a day for the first time since childhood. Within a few weeks, my night sweats and insatiable hunger disappeared. I knew it was working.
The challenge was that all of my neurological symptoms flared every time I drank a healing juice, smoothie, or ate salads, fruit, greens, or potatoes. I experienced intense healing reactions due to how toxic and viral my body was. I could only tolerate a few supplements and focused primarily on detoxing through food.
I became an expert on detoxification.
I understood what was happening, knew how to navigate the healing reactions, and had the right mindset. God guided me through every step of the healing process. What I didn’t know was how long it would take.
For the past eight years, I have been detoxing with plant foods and mindset work. There were times when I had to eat only gluten-free oats, beans, and rice to slow the detox because it became too intense due to my sensitivities. Other times, I relied solely on potatoes and sweet potatoes to cleanse at a pace my body could handle.
The detox process has not been easy, but because I had the right information, determination, and faith, I was able to heal and reclaim my life.
I have healed over 90% of more than 80 chronic symptoms. I’m now down to fewer than 10 very mild symptoms. Within six months to one more year of detox, I will be fully healed for good.
